SA's LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex) Dementia Project was funded by the Department of Health and Ageing until 30th June 2015. In consultation with LGBTI communities, the aims of the project have been to:

  • Raise awareness in the LGBTI communities, with LGBTI people themselves, their families and their carers, about dementia and dementia risk reduction strategies.
  • Develop and deliver LGBTI dementia awareness training for aged care service providers, including making the program available in a train the trainer format.
  • Explore how LGBTI communities access, or want to access, aged care services and AASA services, in particular.
  • Gather information about the more marginalised transgender and intersex communities to inform its work on each of the above mentioned aims.
