A key strategic priority for Dementia Australia in the next five years is to work collaboratively to define standards of quality dementia care. We will work with government and industry to promote the adoption of those standards.
This will afford us the best possible chance to influence the way dementia care is provided throughout the aged care sector.
We ran a series of Focus Groups followed by a Consumer Summit to ratify the Communique summarising these standards. The Communique was presented by one of our Dementia Advocates to Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck, Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians. The implications and action items were discussed at a Roundtable, and now sector leaders are invited to the Dementia Australia National Symposium 2020 on 24 March in Sydney.
Following the Symposium Professor Dawn Brooker, a keynote speaker on person centred care, will run a series of masterclasses in five capital cities. The Dawn Brooker Masterclass tour 2020 will support agencies in the successful implementation of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
