Free community support for people caring for a loved one with dementia

Alzheimer’s Australia (Qld) is holding a FREE education session for families and friends who care for a person who is living with dementia at Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast next month.

Carer education is available to family carers and friends involved in the care or support of a person living with dementia.

The Family Carer Course will be held on Tuesday 6 December from 9.30am – 2.30pm with lunch provided at Alzheimer’s Australia (Qld)’s respite centre, Cedar House, at Mudgeeraba.

Attending a family carer education course can help you to:

  • Better understand dementia and how dementia can affect the person and impact on their quality of life
  • Develop strategies for more effective communication between yourself and the person living with dementia
  • Identify stress early and learn how to reduce stress
  • Learn how to have effective engagement when visiting a person living with dementia.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet other carers, families and friends to share similar experiences and learn about local support services.

Following this event, family carers are also invited to a special Christmas Party on Wednesday 8th December at a local club in Southport. It is a two course meal at no cost and gives carers the opportunity to take time out to recharge.  Respite options are available on the day.

Please call the National Dementia Support Program Booking Line on 1800 588 699 to register for one or both events.  Bookings are essential.

These events are generously supported by the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre.
