Dismantling dementia discrimination: It starts before the diagnosis

Dismantling dementia discrimination - report 2022

The Dismantling dementia discrimination: It starts before the diagnosis report launches during Dementia Action Week, which runs from 19 – 25 September 2022.

This policy report explores the idea that it is not always obvious that someone has dementia. In the same way that physical ramps and other measures are used to support people with physical disabilities to access spaces, metaphorical ‘ramps’ are needed to address how we, as a community, can reduce discrimination and stigma for people living with dementia.

We know discrimination has a big impact on people living with dementia, their families and carers, and a little support from the community and health care professionals can make a big difference.

We need to change this experience for all people impacted by dementia.

The good news is there are small but significant things that anyone can do that can make a difference for people living with dementia, their families and carers. A little support makes a big difference.
