Care for the carer - for clients

This series of sessions provides an understanding of dementia. It explores strategies, resources and support services for maintaining positive carer wellbeing and effective communication. 

Dementia Australia's facilitators have specialist dementia knowledge, skills and experience.  These sessions are focused on the carer and are delivered interactively. You will be encouraged to share your experiences alongside other carers giving you an opportunity to develop support networks.

You will gain knowledge in:

  • the effects of dementia and understanding how to plan ahead 
  • positive communication and engagement  techniques
  • practical strategies  and support for managing carer stress

Suitable for: Family carers and family members of people living with dementia. 

This program will benefit people caring for or supporting a family member who has dementia. This session is not suitable for people living with dementia.

If you register to attend this program and you are not a current client of Dementia Australia, you will be contacted by Dementia Australia staff to ensure that the program will meet your needs. You will be required to attend multiple sessions or a block of time, and should be willing to participate in a workshop style environment. 

This program is not suitable for professional carers or people employed in the health or aged care industries. The resources, content and delivery will not meet the needs of professionals.
