On Valentine’s Day the Fight Dementia Campaign hit the streets in every capital city to urge the community to support an investment of $200 million over five years for dementia research in the upcoming Federal Budget.
The community was asked to become Dementia Champions and customise heart shaped leaves with their favourite memories, bringing Dementia Australia’s six-foot memory trees to life.
The nationwide event, which also included love heart chocolates, information on Dementia Australia Dementia Research Foundation and a Polaroid station, was a great success and resulted in thousands of new Dementia Champions.
None of this would have been possible without the wonderful partnerships Dementia Australia has with other organisations.
We have been so fortunate in having our Public Relations agency, Porter Novelli, to once again develop another successful Valentine’s Day concept.
Thank you also to all the organisations who joined the fight, including The Australian Nursing Federation, Carers Australia, Bupa and Ipsos and all the staff, carer support groups, care homes, and volunteers who helped make the day a success.
With this support, and the support of the wider community, we have managed to increase awareness of the Fight Dementia Campaign and we will continue to press for an increase investment in dementia research in the 2013-14 Federal Budget.
