The National Quality Dementia Care Initiative
Thanks to The National Quality Dementia Care Initiative (NQDCI) which was established through the J.O & J.R Wicking Trust, Dementia Australia has been able to ensure important dementia research findings are influencing mainstream healthcare and medical practices now.
Under the direction of people living with dementia and their carers, the partnership works to turn existing dementia research into quality dementia care.
Three current NQDCI projects underway include:
Promoting best practice for people with dementia in dental care settings
The Australian Dental Association in collaboration with Dementia Australia will develop high quality, competency based CPD (continuing professional development) materials to educate dentists on dementia and ensure they are equipped to provide timely and appropriate care for people with different stages of dementia.
Allied Health Professions: Supporting people with dementia and their carers
Dementia Australia has partnered with the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation to develop a guide on how allied health interventions can support people with dementia and their carers.
These resources will also provide guidance to allied health professionals to optimise the care for people with dementia and their carers.
Medicines and Dementia National Consumer Awareness campaign
NPS MedicineWise in collaboration with Dementia Australia will develop a national awareness campaign that will seek to empower people living with dementia and carers on the safe, appropriate and effective use of medicines and their rights with respect to treatment.
