Jamie Milne is an experienced, in-demand trainer and a results based Strength and Conditioning Coach. He also has many years of Ultra Marathon running experience, including running the length of New Zealand’s North Island twice and the South Island once and running from Cairns to Townsville and Cairns to Port Douglas in Far North Queensland on more than one occasion.

He has jogged the length of Scotland from the England Scotland border, Gretna Green to the very top of the United Kingdom, John O'Groats, all with a 10kg back pack on. Jamie’s most recent endurance based accolade saw him complete a 960km solo run around Tasmania. He ran 80kms (2 marathons) a day for 12 days.

These Ultra Marathon running events have all been charity based, flying under the banner of Many Miles for Mary; this was formed in memoriam of Jamie’s late Grandmother Mary.

In September 2016 Jamie will raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation by embarking on his most challenging run yet - running 2,100kms, from Melbourne to Warana on the Sunshine Coast in 18 days in a bid to raise $20,000 for the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation. Starting on 17 September from the Odin Performance Centre in Melbourne's Albert Park the run will cover 3 states and 4 major cities.

But even for a seasoned veteran like Jamie, this will be his toughest challenge yet and so to help on those long, lonely roads he's enlisted a little help from his fellow marathon loving friends. Melbourne’s Josh Jones, fellow fitness industry guru and #JBNPROJECT (Just Be Nice), will run Jamie out of the starting blocks on day 1 accompanying him the 42 kilometres from Odin Performance Centre in Albert Park and out of Melbourne. Original 2009 Many Miles For Mary runner Simon Batt will also run alongside Jamie, joining him for days 6,7 and 8 of the journey through Sydney, clocking up the kilometres in the “Stand and Fight Dementia” community bank and adding valuable funds to the total.

Marathon runners Aarthi Venkatesan and Melanie Panayiotou have also pledged kilometres to the “Stand and Fight Dementia” kilometre bank and will provide Jamie some much-needed company along the way.

“Many Miles for Mary is a tribute to my Nanny who was the true essence of the word lady. For all the goodness in my personality and character my values, principles and love, I accredit to my grandparents, especially my Nanny Mary.

The yearly event reminds me of this sweet and special person that was to me my own angel sent down to earth to show me that in a world full of complexity, there is much peace in simplicity. One of my fondest childhood memories was sharing her foot stool watching Coronation St under a tartan blanket enjoying jam, tea and toast.

She left this world lonely, slowly and scared, and at the time I didn't know what to do. This disease of forgetfulness stole the one person in my life I never wanted to lose, she was a mother to me, a friend and a nurturer.”

Many Miles for Mary are inviting anyone to join the "Stand and Fight Dementia" kilometre bank. Members of the public are encouraged to support Jamie by nominating a distance, running it and posting it to social media notifying Many Miles for Mary with hashtags #mmfm2016 #standandfightdementia.  Now at  the completion of the run - Many Miles for Mary have held a number of fundraising events and contributed nearly $22,000 to the kitty for dementia research.
