Artistic Endeavours Group

Dementia Australia Art Program

A small therapeutic creative art group for people living with dementia

Alzheimer’s Australia WA is offering a new art studio experience based on the highly successful ‘Artistic Adventures’ - a programme of hands on studio sessions and gallery tours for couples, held at the Art Gallery of WA.

The new art group will offer a peaceful two-hour session at our Shenton Park studio, for up to eight participants, who have a diagnosis of dementia. The class will offer a flexible mix of art media, including paints, pastels, clay and collage.
Participants will be well supported to express themselves in their own unique way.

The Artistic Endeavours Group will suit those who have enjoyed art in the past but who are now having difficulties in maintaining their art practice, or for those new to art but would like to try something new. The group will be run by Alzheimer’s Australia WA’s Art Therapist.

Creativity and the Arts as a Wellbeing Strategy

The creative arts are an important and unique way to engage people living with dementia, and their role is now strongly supported by recent research and evaluation findings.

The latest research includes the 2014 UK Arts4dementia study “Reawakening the Mind” by Professor Nick C. Fox, Director of the Dementia Research Centre in London and the 2015 ‘Alive! Evaluation’ by Willis Newson Consultants in conjunction with the West of England University.
