Volunteer with Dementia Australia

Volunteering is a powerful way to contribute to the work Dementia Australia does to improve the lives of people with dementia, their families, friends and carers.

Across Australia, volunteers help us in many ways — at fundraising events, delivering local programs and building awareness in the community about dementia.

As a Dementia Australia volunteer, you will:

  • be a part of the national peak body for dementia
  • develop new skills and gain new experiences
  • have social interaction and share experiences with like-minded people
  • gain a better understanding of dementia and the help available
  • build your confidence to engage and support people living with dementia
  • help us achieve our vision

Dementia Australia offers our volunteers:

  • roles suited to your capabilities and experience
  • appropriate and role-specific orientation and training programs
  • an environment conducive to good performance, health and safety
  • respect, appreciation and recognition
  • public liability and personal accident insurance coverage while engaged in volunteer roles with Dementia Australia.

Becoming a Dementia Australia volunteer is easy

To be one of our fantastic event volunteers with Memory Walk and Jog follow the link to our dedicated Memory Walk and Jog volunteer page.

If you are interested in a longer-term ongoing volunteer opportunity with Dementia Australia, please email and include your name, location, and some general information about yourself and why you are interested in volunteering with us.

Then a Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to provide more details on our online application process.

After receiving and reviewing your application, we will contact you to explore potential opportunities in your location.

From there, we may arrange a police background check and other checks relevant to your role.

Successful volunteer applicants must complete our online training and role-specific orientation before joining our volunteering team supporting the Dementia Australia community.

We are sorry to note that we do not consider tertiary student placements, work experience, Work for the Dole or Return to Work activities as volunteering.

For tertiary student placement opportunities, please email
