‘Impressions in Clay’ display- workshop series

Dementia Action Week
Date
Monday, 15 September 2025
Time
9:00am- 5:00pm ACST

Organised by : Dementia Inclusive Southern Highlands (DISH)

Supported with a grant from Dementia Australia the Cairns Potters Club in collaboration with Hedy Verhulst(programme coordinator) facilitated a series of free hands on clay workshops for people living with dementia and their carers in the Cairns community. During the programme every week we were treated on a ‘show and tell’ from a volunteer of the Friends of the Cairns Botanical Gardens, highlighting a different botanical species from the Gardens. This was used as a starting point and inspiration for the clay activity that followed. The participants made wonderful works and amazed everyone, including themselves, with their creativity. These works, together with visual documentation of the workshop series are presented during the 2025 Dementia in Action Week at the public library in Manunda in a display cabinet to share with the Cairns community and raise dementia awareness.
