COTA NT
COTA NT is in Spillett House just off Smith Street, one of Darwin CBD’s major avenues. The venue is adjacent to council accessible parking has access and accessible toilet facilities. Inside Spillett House, dementia friendly signage assists with way finding and coloured-toilet seats with toileting.
A low sensory space is available in COTA’s small, private garden area and a companion cat is available for soothing agitation and providing security.
The organisation has been certified by Dementia Australia for actively working towards becoming dementia-friendly and has an active and ongoing dementia-friendly action plan. COTA NT staff have also undertaken learning to become, and to support the community to become, more friendly and inclusive of people living with dementia.
All members of the community are encouraged to participate in COTA NT’s program of (low-cost or free) events and activities which include dementia-friendly seated fun fit, choir singing and line dancing sessions. COTA NT’s activities are characterised by their friendly and relaxed nature which enables all individuals, their families and carers to enjoy a safe, comfortable and nurturing space
