Singing by Heart - Dementia-Friendly Singing Groups
Singing by Heart is part of The Salvation Army’s response to people living with dementia in our city. This free, community-based singing group, hosted at Brunswick Salvation Army, is designed especially for Australians living with dementia and their carers.
Our welcoming sessions (Wednesdays monthly) blend popular and sacred songs from across the decades, helping to unlock memories, encourage joyful interaction, and foster connection - even as dementia progresses.
No singing experience is needed, and carers and families are warmly encouraged to join in. Each session includes uplifting music, short prayers, and Scripture, creating a supportive, dementia-friendly space for relaxation, fun, and shared experiences. Participants enjoy social interaction over light refreshments and a favourite hot beverage.
Singing by Heart offers a unique opportunity to experience the power of music in dementia care, right here in Merri-bek. We are also taking this program to local aged care centres in the area.
