Dementia Australia honours the life and legacy of Patron Allan Moffat OBE

Dementia Australia honours iconic Australian motorsport figure and Dementia Australia Patron Allan Moffat OBE following his passing, aged 86.

In 2019, Allan chose to speak publicly about his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, sharing his experience to help others know they are not alone and to raise awareness and funds across the racing community and beyond. His honesty, determination and generosity inspired many and strengthened understanding of dementia in Australia.

As Patron, Allan – together with his loyal support network – gave so much of himself to champion this cause. Since 2023, Dementia Australia has been honoured to be the nominated charity partner of the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 in Allan’s honour. The Supercars events have created powerful moments of connection trackside and helped raise vital awareness about dementia.

Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan acknowledged Allan’s extraordinary advocacy.

“Allan was admired and respected not only as an icon of Australian motorsport, but also as an advocate who used his profile to make a meaningful difference for people of all ages living with dementia, their families and carers,” Professor Buchanan said.

“Allan’s support of our work including Memory Walk & Jog events, fundraising initiatives, media stories and social media posts has made a difference in many ways to the lives of people impacted by dementia. His legacy of honesty, courage and generosity will continue to help families facing dementia for years to come.”

Allan’s long-time manager Phil Grant reflects on Allan’s extraordinary role in championing dementia awareness.

“Allan was so proud to be a Patron for Dementia Australia and in his honour, we encourage all his fans to donate in his name through the Allan Moffat Foundation to continue his legacy,” Mr Grant said.
