12th Annual Illawarra Dementia Forum

Dementia Advocates were again highly instrumental in the successful staging and delivery of the 12th annual Illawarra Dementia Forum which was held in September in Fairy Meadow, New South Wales.
This year’s event was bigger, bolder and better attracting nearly 400 participants.
The forum brought together a range of service providers, government agencies academics and researchers along with the general public.
It was designed to raise awareness, inform and encourage those with an interest and passion in dementia to join collective efforts to fight unfavourable stigma and stereotypes and create dementia-friendly communities.
This year Dementia Australia CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan was a keynote speaker and spoke about the importance of ‘Act Now for a Dementia-Friendly Future’.
Dementia Advocates Gwenda Darling, Steve Grady and Dennis Frost were featured on a panel discussion (pictured) on how to live well with dementia. Dementia Advocate Andrea-Christie David (pictured) was also featured on a carer panel exploring the issues confronted by carers.
A visual highlight of the forum was an art display featuring art works from people living with dementia including Dementia Advocates Dennis Frost, Gwenda Darling, and Colin Powell (pictured above).
