Dementia Advocate Anthony Pollock presenting at the Brisbane North Aged Care Forum.

Dementia Advocate Anthony Pollock shared the impacts of his dementia diagnosis, along with the message that a diagnosis does not mean the end of a fulfilling and meaningful life, at the recent Brisbane North Aged Care Forum.

Almost 200 participants from the health and aged care sector gathered for the forum for a morning of knowledge-sharing, program updates and networking. The forum aims to support the improvement of quality of life and patient outcomes for older Australians in the region.

Anthony highlighted his advocacy activities including the establishment of the Brisbane North Dementia Community Alliance. He also shared a short film about his participation in walking football, a modified, low-impact version of the sport, to help slow the progress of his dementia.

Feedback received from the Brisbane North Primary Health Network indicates that attendees highly valued the inclusion of a person impacted by dementia in the speaking program, a new addition to the quarterly aged care forums.
