Advocates have their say about research priorities
The Dementia Australia Research Foundation consulted Dementia Advocates about what they would like to see as research priority areas for the Foundation.
Consultation will ensure that the Foundation is funding high quality, innovative research in areas that matter to people with lived experience.
More than 100 Dementia Advocates had their say, with “improving quality of life for people living with dementia” identified as a top research priority for all Advocates.
For carers, other top research priorities included improving care both in and outside residential aged care facilities.
For people living with dementia, treatments or interventions to slow progression and ways to detect early signs of dementia were the top priorities.
Results from the survey will inform future grant rounds as well as the information contained in the applicant guideline booklet – so researchers are aware of Advocate research priorities.
