Advocates inform National Carers Strategy

More than 50 Dementia Advocate carers helped to inform the development of a new National Carer Strategy.
Advocates in each state and territory attended focus groups and interviews with Dementia Australia in partnership with Carers Australia.
The strategy will help recognise the immense contribution of Australia’s unpaid carers to the community and provide a framework for coordination of carer policy across aged care, disability, veterans’ affairs and mental health.
It will be developed in consultation with carers across Australia to reflect the diversity of carers and the challenges they face, and to ensure it appropriately supports carers’ wellbeing, as well as their economic and social participation.
Thank you to all Advocates involved in the consultation for sharing your expertise and experience and highlighting the needs and wants of people caring for someone living with dementia.
