Earlier this month the winners of Dementia Australia’s annual Shining STAR staff awards were announced.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination for the ALICE award category.

Dementia Advocates nominated staff members and teams in this category to recognise those who best demonstrated the ALICE principles in the way they work with people living with dementia, their families and carers.

ALICE stands for Authentic, Living Experience, Inclusive, Collaborative and Empowering, which are the principles for the way in which Dementia Australia engages with people living with dementia, their families and carers.

A special thank you to DAAC members Dennis Frost, Gwenda Darling and Steve Rule for reviewing all the nominations and selecting the winners.

It was difficult to choose a winner, due to the high calibre of nominees. The DAAC awarded both an individual and a team recipient for 2024.

Individual Award

The individual award went to Family Engagement Counsellor Anna Greenwell, who, for the person who nominated her, has made a profound difference to their family.

Her approach has embraced the ALICE principles and in particular her authenticity and inclusion has had a deep impact.

Team Award

The team award went to the Cedar House Day-based Activities and Out and About teams in Queensland for providing an empowering and inclusive environment, and offering individuals the chance to continue their everyday lives in an atmosphere of purpose.
