Dementia Advocates were consulted on access to aged care services for the Inspector General of Aged Care’s 2024 Progress Report on Implementation of Aged Care Royal Commission Recommendations.

The Office sought feedback on the processes people go through in accessing the aged care system, including obtaining information about care options, navigating the My Aged Care website, accessing aged care for the first time, and receiving care and support once in the system.

There was an excellent response to the survey (more than 100 participants) and the observations and insights provided by Advocates, many of which were included as direct quotes, made a valuable contribution to Dementia Australia’s lengthy written submission.

Four carer advocates also attended a focus group with the Inspector General of Aged Care, Ian Yates to provide their input and share their experiences of the aged care system.
