February 2024: Update from the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee

Hello Dementia Advocates,
Earlier this month Dementia Australia Board Chair Merran Kelsall AO announced the appointment of Professor Tanya Buchanan as Dementia Australia’s incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Professor Buchanan, who is currently CEO of Cancer Council Australia, brings a wealth of experience gained through her extensive and impressive career in the health, research and not-for-profit sectors. You can find out more about her in Dementia Australia’s media release.
Of most importance, Professor Buchanan will continue to advocate for people living with dementia, their families and carers, and continue to ensure everybody impacted by dementia knows that they are not alone.
Professor Buchanan will commence her role in May and we look forward to working with her.
The regional DAAC initiative, Strengthening Connections, is gathering momentum with a successful get-together in South Australia, and several more in the planning. It is a very exciting time, knowing that we can connect Advocates in less populous areas, giving them the opportunity get to know each other and to develop a local network and support system in their own areas. We will keep you in the loop.
I look forward to catching up with many of you at the next Advocates National drop-in meeting and, in the meantime, don’t forget you can always contact me or other members of the DAAC on our email DAAC@dementia.org.au
Until the next time.
Bobby Redman
Chair, Dementia Australia Advisory Committee
