Many organisations who provide services and products to people impacted by dementia consult with people living with dementia, their families and carers. This consultation could be on anything from daily care and treatment decisions to national policy design, and everything in between.

It is important that consultation is meaningful, gives a voice to people impacted by dementia and makes sure they are fully heard.

Dementia Advocate Eileen Taylor said: “People living with dementia and their care partners want more than half the story told, they want the whole story told and understood.”

To help organisations, we have published Half the Story, a free guide to meaningful consultation co-authored by Dementia Advocates.

Half the Story is an essential tool for aged-care providers and other organisations who want to know how to better engage with people living with dementia, their families and carers.

This valuable resource also assists newly approved and existing aged care providers to comply with the incoming requirements (1 December 2022 and 2023 respectively) to offer consumers and their representatives the opportunity to establish annual consumer advisory bodies.
