July 2024: Update from the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee

Hello Dementia Advocates,
It was great to catch up with so many of you at the last Advocates’ online drop-in meeting, where we took a look at the opportunities and outcomes of those of us with the living experience engaging in research, both as a participant and as an expert advisor.
With Dementia Action Week just around the corner (16-22 September), the next drop-in meeting with be discussing the focus of this year’s event and how we can all be involved. Please join us for that at 2pm (AEST) on Tuesday 6 August.
The Strengthening Connections project continues working towards developing networks between existing and new Dementia Advocates, particularly for those living outside of capital cities, where Advocates have less opportunity to meet up with other Advocates in their area.
The most recent event took place in Castlemaine, Victoria, with planning currently underway for the 12 months ahead. Whilst on holidays in Cairns this month, I took the opportunity to catch up with the Far North Queensland Dementia Alliance together with a potential new Advocate whom I met up with on my Strengthening Connections outreach meetings in March. It was very exciting to discuss their ongoing plans and recognise the passion in their voices.
Don’t forget, if you have any news or queries, please feel free to contact me or other members of the DAAC on our email DAAC@dementia.org.au. We are always pleased to hear from you.
Until the next time.
