June 2024: Update from the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee

Hello Dementia Advocates,
As a result of the Strengthening Connections project, our Dementia Australia Advisory Committee (DAAC) members have had the opportunity to meet with Advocates living in several regional and rural areas around Australia.
As you may remember the goals of the project were to reduce feelings of isolation by assisting Advocates to get to know each other and develop local networks, to support and learn from each other as well as to connect to others in the community interested in improving the lives of those of us living with dementia.
There was some extremely positive feedback from those communities engaged in the pilot of the project. I am excited to let you know that Strengthening Connections has now been extended for a further 12 months to allow us to expand it to other regional and rural areas.
Dementia Australia’s new CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan has also been travelling around the country, meeting staff and Advocates, to find out what is happening at the grass roots of the organisation and to hear ideas and feedback. I hope you have the opportunity to be involved in this planning process by attending these meetings, if not face to face then online.
If you have any news or queries, please feel free to contact me or other members of the DAAC on our email DAAC@dementia.org.au
Until the next time.
