We will share a roundup of Dementia Action Week media and social media in next month’s edition of Advocacy in Action.

Media

There was ongoing coverage about Dementia Australia’s Hold the Moment podcast, including: 

  • An extensive story on The Project, with Dementia Australia Ambassador Hamish Macdonald interviewing Dementia Advocate Pam Eade about her experience recording an episode of Hold the Moment podcast. Pam features in episode two of Hold the Moment, which focuses on getting your affairs in order.
  • The Welcome Record (Dunolly Victoria) interviewed Dementia Advocate Heather Cooper, who features in episode three, about staying fit while living with dementia. Heather was also interviewed on ABC Radio Canberra and ABC Gippsland.
  • Dementia Advocate Jim Rogers and Dementia Australia Ambassador Hamish Macdonald were interviewed on Channel 9 Today Extra.
  • Jim Rogers and Hamish Macdonald were also mentioned on ABC Radio Sydney.

 

Dementia Advocate Val Fell OAM was quoted in a story by the Southern Highland News about aged care home capacity issues in NSW (syndicated in South Coast Register, Milton Ulladulla Times and Illawarra Mercury). 

Val spoke on ABC Radio Illawarra about a local dementia education session and WIN Wollongong about the upcoming Illawarra Dementia Forum. Val also spoke to ABC Radio Brisbane about a proposal to create dedicated hospitals for older patients.

 

Dementia Advocate Gwenda Darling was quoted in an article by Aged Care Insite about the International Dementia Conference 2024. 

 

Dementia Advocate Bruce McDermaid was interviewed by the Dubbo News about a local RSL club that has become dementia-friendly.

Dementia Advocates Cathy Roth OAM and John Roth were interviewed and featured on Channel 9 MelbourneSBS World News AustraliaNine News Late, Channel 10 Melbourne and Channel 7 Melbourne about a new finger-prick test designed by Monash University that could screen for early Alzheimer's diagnosis.

We shared about a dementia-friendly screening of the film Everybody’s Oma at cinema in South Australia for Dementia Action Week. The event featured a live Q&A with Dementia Advocates Jason van Genderen and Anthony Pollock. (Facebook)
