October 2023: Update from the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee

Monday, 23 October 2023Advocacy in Action
Dementia Australia Advisory Committee at a face to face meeting in South Australia.

Hello to all you Dementia Advocates,

The Strengthening Connections project is coming together and we are getting ready to reach out to Advocates in some regional areas as part of the pilot program.

So please look out for a letter from your state or territory’s Consumer Engagement Coordinator, briefly explaining how we hope to build stronger networks between Advocates around Australia and introducing the DAAC Member who will be coming out to meet with you.

Once you respond to your coordinator you will be contacted by your DAAC Representative to work out a suitable meeting date. I believe this is a great opportunity to build our advocacy network and to help Advocates – whether they live in cities, regional or rural areas – to feel more strongly connected to each other.

Don’t despair if you are not in the initial grouping as this is just a pilot, and if this is successful, then we hope to be able to join the dots to include other areas, until all Dementia Australia Dementia Advocates are connected. I look forward to meeting some of you very soon.

On a sadder note, you will have all been notified of the recent announcement that Chair of the Board, Professor Graeme Samuel AC will end his term on 23 November, and that Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe AM will also be moving on in July 2024.

The DAAC would like to offer them both our very best wishes and to thank them for their long-term dedication to improving the lives of people living with dementia and our carers.

We welcome Merran Kelsall AO as the incoming Chair of Dementia Australia.
