Dementia Australia Advisory Committee members Natalie Ive and Kevyn Morris hosted a Strengthening Connections event in Castlemaine, Victoria to explore how people living with dementia, their families and carers can stay connected within their community.

The event was open to the neighbouring towns of Bendigo and Ballarat, and attendees included two Dementia Advocates and a member of the Tarrangower Dementia Alliance.

Natalie said it was vital to continue the Strengthening Connections project in rural Victoria.

“People voiced their concern about much needed support that they don't have,” she said.

“They also were very clear on wanting more Dementia-Friendly Communities. Currently there is only one that not all people are able attend due to geographical distance and (as a result) feel very isolated.”

Planning is currently underway for the next 12 months of the Strengthening Connections project and we look forward to sharing more about this soon.
