Care partners of people with dementia: perceptions of rehabilitation and post-diagnostic support services in the ACT
This mixed-methods study will be informed by a two-phase sequential explanatory design. This survey evaluates access to rehabilitation services for community-dwelling people with dementia from the perspective of care partners and assesses their satisfaction with post-diagnostic care and support. The qualitative phase of the study will involve conducting semi-structured interviews with care partners of individuals with dementia residing in the ACT region to gain a deeper understanding of whether the available services are adequately meeting their evolving needs.
This study has been approved by the University of Canberra Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC-13885)
Participation
All individuals living in the ACT region, who have provided unpaid care and assistance to a person with dementia within their direct environment, including spouses, family members, and friends, are eligible to participate in this study. Both current and former care partners who provided care within the past five years can participate. Participants who choose to take part in the survey will not face any specific risks. However, if any question causes distress, the participant is free to discontinue the survey. In addition, a link to support hotlines Lifeline, Dementia Australia, and Dementia Support Australia are provided in the Participant Information Form and at the end of the survey. Participants should also ensure that they allocate sufficient time to complete the survey, as it may take up to 40 minutes based on pilot testing.
