RIDE study: Reducing the Impact of Dementia Early

Using new pain-free and cost-effective techniques, the aim of this study is to measure the structure and the function of the brain, the blood vessels in the brain, the blood vessels supplying the brain and the blood vessels in the arm, to determine the earliest marker of dementia risk. 

This study has been approved by the Victoria University Human research Ethics Committee - Application ID: HRE24-068

Participation

You may be eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria: 

  • aged between 18-85
  • cognitive/functional impairment not likely due to another neurological disease
  • able to understand the study rationale and the procedures involved in the study
     

Exclusion criteria:

  • contraindications to MRI
  • history of traumatic brain injury (including history of concussion e.g., concussion from contact sport)
  • uncontrolled hypertension
  • current smoker or previously smoked within the last 12 months
  • heart disease
  • pregnancy

 

This study will involve two sessions. The first session will be a battery of cognitive assessments followed by a cerebral magnetic resonance imaging scan. The second session will involve a number of non-invasive vascular assessments.
 

 


Participant duration

two visits across an approximate two week period. Each session will be approximately 2 hours
