Voluntary assisted dying and dementia in Australia: An exploratory study

Researchers at Queensland University of Technology are holding 'Discussion Day' to discuss voluntary assisted dying (VAD) and dementia. The day will be attended by QUT researchers, doctors, people living with dementia, carers, policymakers and representatives from professional associations and peak bodies. 

During this day, participants will be given the opportunity to offer their views on possible legislative models that would allow people living with dementia to access VAD. 

Seeking participation of people living with dementia and their carers to participate in a 4.5 hour 'Discussion Day' to discuss voluntary assisted dying and dementia. 

The event is set to take place on Wednesday 25 March 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM.

Participants will be provided with morning tea and lunch and reimbursed for any associated parking costs or public transport. To prepare them for the in-person event, participants will be asked to attend a webinar (or watch a recording) and will be provided with a resource pack. We will also ask participants to complete a short pre- and post- survey to document their views, including any changes that occur throughout the research project. 

The day will be recorded and will consist of facilitated focus groups, small group discussions and presentations from trained facilitators to communicate the findings throughout the day. 

People who complete the research activities will be given a $200 gift card as an appreciation for their time.
