Our story

Founded by carers more than 40 years ago, today Dementia Australia is the peak body for people impacted by dementia in Australia.

We are the trusted source of information, education and services for Australians living with dementia and the people involved in their care. We advocate for positive change and support vital research. We are here to support people impacted by dementia, and to enable them to live as well as possible. No matter how you are impacted by dementia or who you are, we are here for you.

Key moments

Here are some highlights of Dementia Australia’s 2024-25.

  • Hold the Moment podcast

    We launched two seasons of our Hold the Moment Podcast, which was downloaded 166,924 times in 2024-25.

  • Funding for CTE support

    The Hon. Anika Wells MP, then Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Sport, announced $12.5 million in federal funding to support people impacted by chronic traumatic encephalopathy at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, supported by Dementia Australia Ambassador Wally Lewis AM.

  • Amazing fundraising!

    Thanks to the support of Australian donors, we achieved $16.9 million for support and research. This includes more than $2.9 million in fundraising through our Memory Walk & Jog events.

  • Funding Australian dementia research

    Dementia Australia awarded $3.7 million in funding for 24 projects exploring new and better avenues for dementia prevention, treatment and support.

  • Supporting Australians impacted by dementia

    In 2024-25, we supported 50,434 Australians impacted by dementia through our services.
