End-of-year Advocate meetings

Across the country Advocates met for a final time in December 2022.
In Brisbane, 12 new and long-time Advocates met in person to get to know each other and share some of the advocacy work in which they have been involved. They heard about Dementia Australia’s Connecting Peers program and new National Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee. The also heard about the launch of Half the Story, a guide to meaningful consultation with people living with dementia, families and carers.
In Perth, six Advocates came together and heard Bronte Parkin’s experience of attending the Parliamentary Friends of Dementia event in Canberra. Advocates also discussed their thoughts and views with one another around residential aged care and the ways in which it could be improved.
In Sydney, an end of year get-together for advocates at Dementia Australia’s North Ryde office was an informal opportunity for advocates to catch up with each other and Dementia Australia staff. Just prior to the get-together, a number of Advocates were involved in the Aged Care Accommodation Framework consultation.
Six Melbourne Advocates attended an end-of-year celebration where upcoming advocacy opportunities and suggestions were discussed, in addition to celebrating their hard work.
Look out for more opportunities to connect with fellow Advocates throughout 2023.
