“Having a better understanding of dementia is an integral part of dealing with it”

When comedian Geraldine Hickey’s dad was diagnosed with dementia, she said having access to resources such as the Dementia Guide was so helpful.
“My Dad lives with dementia and having access to information and resources was so helpful for my family and myself when Dad was diagnosed,” Geraldine said.
“Having a better understanding of dementia is an integral part of dealing with it.”
So, when we asked if she would like to be involved with recording a section of the new audiobook version of The Dementia Guide, Geraldine jumped at the chance.
“The Dementia Guide has information for those living with dementia and those impacted like family and friends. Having it as an audiobook makes it so much more accessible and you’re less likely to leave it on the bus or in a café,” Geraldine said.
“To be involved in recording the audiobook alongside the other supporters is something I am really proud of, I like that I get to play a small part in helping people that are impacted by dementia and I hope it raises more awareness that help and support is available.”
Geraldine joined forces with a host of other celebrity supporters, Dementia Australia Ambassadors and Patrons: Ita Buttrose AC OBE, Natarsha Belling, Stephanie Bendixsen, Takaya Honda, Mark Seymour, Denis Walter OAM, Pat Welsh and Rhonda Burchmore OAM who each recorded a section of the audiobook.
The audiobook also includes a welcome from Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe AM and a chapter recorded by Ann Pietsch, who is a Dementia Advocate and lives with dementia.
The Dementia Guide is the go-to resource for people living with dementia, their families and carers.
To make it widely accessible, it is available in three different formats. You can listen to it as an audiobook, download it as a digital file or order a printed copy.
