“I can’t believe it, me doing this, everything was for Grandma. I’m so, so happy and really grateful I could do it for her.”

Abbie Chatfield was crowned the Queen of the Jungle in the most recent series of I’m a Celebrity Get Me… Out of Here, and chose Dementia Australia to be the recipient of a $100,000 donation.

Abbie chose Dementia Australia in honour of her grandma Carmel, who lived with dementia and passed away in June last year.

“I can’t believe it, me doing this, everything was for Grandma. I’m so, so happy and really grateful I could do it for her,” Abbie said.

“I’d like to leave a big fat donation for Dementia Australia to help people living with dementia lead better lives.”

In addition to the $100,000 donation, Dementia Australia will also receive money from every viewer telephone vote.

Fellow contestant Colin Fassnidge also chose Dementia Australia as his charity, after his dad was diagnosed with younger onset dementia.

“I think what this charity does is it teaches people and helps people through it. They help people living with dementia but also the families” Colin said.

“It’s a new world for me and I just need a helping hand to get through that world and that’s what they do.”

This amazing gift, as well as those from voters, will help us continue to support people impacted by dementia, their families and carers across Australia.

Dementia is the chronic disease of the 21st century and almost half a million Australians live with dementia today.

Shows such as I’m a Celebrity Get Me…Out of Here help raise the profile of this disease to a wide audience and by sharing their experiences, Abbie and Colin are helping to break down some of the stigma associated with dementia.
