May 2024: Update from the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee

Hello Dementia Advocates,
As mentioned last month, three Dementia Advocates, Natalie Ive, Bill Yeates and myself, were honoured to attend and present at the Alzheimer’s Disease International 2024 Conference in Krakow, Poland. We joined with advocates and dementia champions, researchers and project leaders from around the world to present what was (and wasn’t) happening on our own doorstep. We were inspired by so many positive and visionary speakers.
There was a fantastic contingent from Australia, including Advocates, researchers and project leaders from both Dementia Australia and other services. It was both comforting and disturbing to hear that Australia is on the same page with the rest of the world with the challenges we face in getting early diagnosis in order to be able to put in early interventions. This emerged very much as a theme of the Conference. My personal thanks to Dementia Australia in the support that was given to enable me to attend this mind-blowing event.
Returning back home, I speak on behalf of the DAAC and Dementia Advocates in welcoming Dementia Australia’s incoming CEO Professor Tanya Buchanan. Our committee is very excited about the opportunity to work with Professor Buchanan to improve outcomes for all Australians impacted by dementia.
If you have any news or queries, please feel free to contact me or other members of the DAAC on our email DAAC@dementia.org.au
Until the next time.
