Primary Health Network Consultation – Dementia Pathways Project

Throughout July and August, Dementia Advocates from across Australia participated in a major consultation process to identify issues around dementia diagnosis and the gaps that exist in supports and services for people living with dementia and their carers.
Common themes and issues were identified, with many people finding they were simply left to their own devices once a diagnosis had been made. Many people with dementia experience a lack of GP awareness and knowledge, as well as the lack of advice and referrals to appropriate support services.
The feedback will be used to develop recommendations to primary health networks with the aim of informing enhancements to dementia support pathways. The feedback also will support Dementia Australia’s broader policy and advocacy work.
