Three families living with dementia share their experience through ABC’s Four Corners

Alzheimer’s Australia commends the contribution of the people living with dementia, their families and carers who so very generously shared their experiences to make a difference to others, on the ABC’s Four Corners program on Monday 10 July.

Suzie O’Sullivan, Garry and Mandy Lovell and Brian and Heather Fischer selflessly and courageously shared their personal experiences of living with dementia, speaking openly about the impact of the condition, on the program titled ‘Forget Me Not’.

Approximately 70 per cent of Australians admit to knowing very little about dementia. For this reason, the three families who have shared their experiences have made an incredible difference to the level of understanding about dementia in Australia.

Alzheimer’s Australia National CEO Maree McCabe said that the 413,100 people living with dementia in Australia are not alone and our counsellors are there to support people to understand more about the condition, what to expect and how to live well with dementia.

“We encourage anyone with concerns, with a diagnosis or caring for someone with dementia to contact Alzheimer’s Australia on the National Dementia Helpline 1800 100 500” Ms McCabe said.

“I extend my gratitude to all involved with the program who shared their experiences to raise awareness of the support that is available and to show others living with the condition that they are not alone.”
