Enabling Meaningful Choice in Residential Aged Care Mealtimes: Toward Inclusive and Best-Practice Guidelines

University of Canberra

Older people living in aged care homes often have little control over their daily choices, especially during mealtimes. Having choice is known to be important for good quality care, enjoyable mealtimes, and maintaining a sense of identity and independence, however, we do not yet clearly understand what makes mealtime choices acceptable. This Delphi study aims to develop clear, measurable statements about what acceptable mealtime choice looks like, to help put the new Strengthened Aged Care Standards into practice.

This study has been approved by the University of Canberra Human Research Ethics Committee (#114177)

Participation

We are looking for relatives of people living in residential aged care to participate in a three-round, online survey.

The first survey is open-ended and is expected to take approximately 30 minutes, and the following surveys will ask you to rate the statements about choice on a Likert scale of importance, which is expected to take approximately 10-15 minutes.
