Driving in Western Australia - information and resources

Message from the Department of Transport:

The Department of Transport (DoT) is committed to improving the safety of all road users. Along with other Australian licensing jurisdictions, DoT  will continue to examine more effective older driver assessment policies with the aim of maintaining the driver’s mobility and safety.

DoT is guided by the Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive Guidelines when assessing a person’s fitness to hold a drivers licence, for light and heavy vehicle licence classes.

There are legal obligations which require medical practitioners to report any medical conditions that may impair a person’s ability to control a motor vehicle. In addition, there is legislation requiring licence holders to mandatory report certain medical conditions.
